Problem: Pop Server Not Responding

Introduction / Philosophy

Start from first principles and work through ....

Procedure

Check poisson:/var/aliases/forward.list to see what the mail server for the particular user is

Determine if this is a system-wide problem or just specific to the user by testing it on yourself: If the mail server for the user is not also *your* mail server, you cannot mail youself a message because it will be automatically redirectly, but you can still manually create a message in /var/mail/<yourusername> or /var/spool/mail/<yourusername> just copy a correctly formatted message into the directory.

Reconfigure your netscape mail to use that machine as the POP3 server and collect your mail. If it works then it's for the user only, not system wide; the problem is almost certainly a lock file and you should refer to the section dealing with locked mailboxes.

If it is system wide, then ... no further information at this time.
